"I am involved in the identification of novel genes for autosomal recessive and X-linked mental retardation. Candidate genes are selected by using positional cloning methods, such as homozygosity mapping and linkage analysis in families and breakpoint analysis in patients with translocations and inversions. These genes are screened for mutations by conventional Sanger sequencing and by next generation sequencing."
